The 3355 m/sup 2/ El Paso Solar Pond has recently established two milestones for solar ponds in the U.S. In September, 1986, 85/sup 0/C brine from the pond began supplying energy for the boiler of a 100 kW organic Rankine cycle (ORC) engine-generator. In June, 1987, 89/sup 0/ C brine was also supplied to a 19,000 liters/day (5000 gal/day) multi-stage desalination system. The operation of these systems is discussed.
