This bill would afford congressional recognition of the National Atomic Museum at Kirkland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the official atomic museum of the US under the aegis of the US DOE and provide a statutory basis for its betterment, operation, maintenance, and preservation. The mission of the museum has been to provide for the benefit and education of the public a freely available repository of information and items reflecting the Atomic Age and items pertaining to nuclear science, with special emphasis on the history of nuclear weapons and other areas of research conducted by laboratories and facilities of the Department of Energy.
