Renewable energy in the urban setting
- Green Inst., Minneapolis, MN (United States)
The paper tells how one community is planning to use renewable energy to save an inner-city neighborhood in the City of Minneapolis. This project is part of the Federal Enterprise Community in Minneapolis. It is to be a model. The author has borrowed Paul Hawken`s and Amory Lovins` theories about using the sun to create a new economy that relies on current solar income. She also has employed projections about the growth of renewable energy businesses from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota where she began the development of the project. The author believes that renewable energy will not only solve some environmental problems, but will deal with economic issues as well. If she can prove that using solar and wind technology works and can show the savings it will generate, she hopes to convert the naysayers and fence-sitters. Solar and wind power can and will create jobs--living wage jobs. Job creation is one of the weapons in the war on crime and drugs that is being waged every day in the author`s neighborhood.
