Title: Nuclear monitoring research and development project. Final report, November 1991-March 1996

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:273156

This final report covers the period November 1991 through March 1996. This project is a follow on to a previous project to develop the next generation system for nuclear explosion monitoring called the Intelligent Monitoring System or IMS. It exploits emerging technologies in artificial intelligence, distributed computing, data management, and computer graphics. Under this contract, the IMS was extended by adding data from many new stations and station types, improving the event identification capabilities, and extending the knowledge acquisition subsystem and adding new region-specific knowledge. Other tasks included development of software and documentation to enhance the productivity of other research projects funded by ARPA, demonstration of a capability to transfer NMRD technology to other problem domains, assessment of the detection and location capability of hypothetical networks, and integration of data from the AFTAC Distributed Subsurface Network (ADSN) with data from the IMS.
