Dispersion of the refractive index of thin Bi{sub 4}Ge{sub 3}O{sub 12} films produced by the discrete evaporation technique is studied within the two-oscillator approximation. The dispersion curve in the visible region is shown to be determined mainly by the electronic transitions between mixed states of the 6s and 6p shell of bismuth. 10 refs., 1 figs.
