NiH is Halite, Rock Salt structured and crystallizes in the cubic Fm-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ni1+ is bonded to six equivalent H1- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing NiH6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. All Ni–H bond lengths are 1.86 Å. H1- is bonded to six equivalent Ni1+ atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing HNi6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°.
