Abstract

Novel view on QCD dynamics inside hadrons is offered by the transverse momentum dependent parton distributions and fragmentation functions. They can be accessed in Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) experiments. Recent results on SIDI S from pion production at CLAS is presented in this talk.

Exploring the 3 dimensional structure of the nucleon can help to understand several fundamental questions of nature, such as the origin of the nucleon spin and the charge and density distributions inside the nucleon. Measurement of Charged-Pion Production in Deep-Inelastic Scattering off Nuclei with the CLAS Detector

Background: Energetic quarks in nuclear deep-inelastic scattering propagate through the nuclear medium. Processes that are believed to occur inside nuclei include quark energy loss through medium-stimulated gluon bremsstrahlung and intranuclear interactions of forming hadrons. More data are required to gain a more complete understanding of these effects. Purpose: To test the theoretical models of parton transport and hadron formation, we compared their predictions for the nuclear and kinematic dependence of pion production in nuclei. Methods: We have measured charged-pion production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off D, C, Fe, and Pb using the CLAS detector and the CEBAF 5.014-GeV electron beam.more »« less

Semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) is an essential tool to probe nucleon internal structure. Through single hadron SIDIS processes, indeed, it is possible to access the TMDs, containing information on both the longitudinal and transverse motion of the partons. In recent years, moreover, an increasing attention has been devoted to dihadron SIDIS. Overview of SIDIS results from Hall B at Jefferson Lab

We present studies of spin and azimuthal asymmetries in pion production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS), using the data sets from the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab with polarized $$NH_3$$ and unpolarized hydrogen targets. Three run periods, e1-6, e1-f and eg1-dvcs used respectively 5.7, 5.5 and 5.8 GeV longitudinally polarized electron beam and unpolarized liquid hydrogen (e1-6, e1-f) and polarized $$NH_3$$ (eg1-dvcs) targets.
