Performance evaluation of the HydroTech 2000. Volume 1, Heating season: Final report
Carrier Corporation`s HydroTech 2000 integrated space-conditioning and water-heating heat pump system was tested during the 1991--1992 heating season in one of the two GEOMET research houses in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The research house used a simulated occupancy of two adults and one child. The HydroTech 2000`s performance was measured with regard to indoor comfort level, energy consumption of the system, and energy savings deriving from the system`s integrated design. Its performance was also compared to other combinations of resistance and conventional heat pump space heating and resistance water heating. The water-heating function was measured under four combinations of tank size (50- and 80-gallon) and water-draw schedule (63 and 108 gallons/day). The HydroTech 2000 supplied adequate space heat and maintained good comfort levels, and nearly satisfied hot-water demand under both water-draw schedules. In all comparisons, the energy savings exceeded those of other methods of combined space heating and water heating.
