Title: DNA reorganization in a mouse cell's nucleus

Abstract

This visualization shows tightly-packed DNA in a mouse cell's nucleus at different stages of development, from its round shape as a multipotent stem cell; to a more oval shape as it develops into a more specialized neuronal progenitor; then a more triangular form as a mature nerve cell. The final, disjointed structure in this computerized rendering shows how removing a specialized binding protein (HP1β knockout) affects the structure of the DNA-packing material, called heterochromatin.
