Title: Holographic interfaces in $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 SYM: Janus and J-folds

Abstract

We find the holographic dual to the three classes of superconformal Janus interfaces in N = 4 SYM that preserve three-dimensional N = 4, N = 2, and N = 1 supersymmetry. The solutions are constructed in five-dimensional SO(6) maximal gauged supergravity and are then uplifted to type IIB supergravity. Corresponding to each of the three classes of Janus solutions, there are also AdS₄ × S¹ × S⁵ J-fold backgrounds. These J-folds have a non-trivial SL(2, Z) monodromy for the axio-dilaton on the S¹ and are dual to three dimensional superconformal field theories.

We propose and study a specific gauge theory dual of the smooth, nonsupersymmetric (and apparently stable) Janus solution of Type IIB supergravity found in Bak et al. [J. High Energy Phys. 05 (2003) 072]. The dual field theory is N=4 SYM theory on two half-spaces separated by a planar interface with different coupling constants in each half-space. We assume that the position dependent coupling multiplies the operator L{sup '} which is the fourth descendent of the primary TrX{sup {l_brace}}{sup I}X{sup J{r_brace}} and closely related to the N=4 Lagrangian density. New supersymmetric AdS{sub 3} solutions

We construct infinite new classes of supersymmetric solutions of D=11 supergravity that are warped products of AdS{sub 3} with an eight-dimensional manifold M{sub 8} and have nonvanishing four-form flux. In order to be compact, M{sub 8} is constructed as an S{sup 2} bundle over a six-dimensional manifold B{sub 6} which is either Kaehler-Einstein or a product of Kaehler-Einstein spaces. In the special cases that B{sub 6} contains a two-torus, we also obtain new AdS{sub 3} solutions of type IIB supergravity, with constant dilaton and only five-form flux.
