First measurement of direct photoproduction of the a2(1320)0 meson on the proton

Title: First measurement of direct photoproduction of the a₂(1320)⁰ meson on the proton

Abstract

We present the first measurement of the reaction γp → a₂(1320)⁰p in the photon energy range 3.5–5.5Ge V and four-momentum transfer squared 0.2 < –t < 2.0Ge V². Data were collected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The a₂ resonance was detected by measuring the reaction γp → π⁰ηp and reconstructing the π⁰η invariant mass. The most prominent feature of the differential cross section is a dip at –t ≈ 0.55GeV². Here, this can be described in the framework of Regge phenomenology, where the exchange degeneracy hypothesis predicts a zero in the reaction amplitude for this value of the four-momentum transfer.

Previous experiments have performed partial wave analysis on pion-production data and claim observation of an exotic J^PC = 1^-+ state decaying via p-π. Differential cross sections for $Λ (1520)$ using photoproduction at CLAS

The reaction γp→K⁺Λ(1520) using photoproduction data from the CLAS g12 experiment at Jefferson Lab is studied. The decay of Λ(1520) into two exclusive channels, Σ⁺π⁻ and Σ⁻π⁺, is studied from the detected K⁺, π⁺, and π⁻ particles. A good agreement is established for the Λ(1520) differential cross sections with the previous CLAS measurements. The differential cross sections as a function of center-of-mass angle are extended to higher photon energies. Analysis of the D wave in the reaction {pi}p {yields} a{sub 2}{sup 0}(1320)n

A partial-wave analysis of the reaction {pi}{sup {minus}}p {yields} a{sub 2}{sup 0}(1320)n is performed in the region of a{sub 2}{sup 0}(1320)- meson masses at a momentum of 100 GeV/c. The D{sub +} wave is shown to be dominant in all eight nontrivial solutions. This corresponds to the predominant production of the a{sub 2}{sup 0}(1320) meson via the exchange mechanism with natural spin-parity in the t channel. The restriction {vert_bar}D{sub 0}/D{sub +}{vert_bar}{sup 2}<0.16 is imposed on the D{sub 0}-wave magnitude. 18 refs., 7 figs.

Here, we present precision measurements of the target and beam-target spin asymmetries from neutral pion electroproduction in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab.
