The effects of crystal structure on the chemical durability of yttrium disilicate

Elemental release: amorphous Y 2 Si 2 O 7 is leached in pH 3 nitric acid. Post-leaching characterization of the leachate and pellet surface indicates a preferential release of Y, and the formation of an SiO 2 alteration layer on the surface of the pellet.
