Title: New physics through Drell-Yan standard model EFT measurements at NLO

Abstract

Drell Yan production is a sensitive probe of new physics and as such has been calculated to high order in both the electroweak and QCD sectors of the Standard Model, allowing for precision comparisons between theory and data. Here we extend these calculations to the Standard Model Effective field theory (SMEFT) and present the NLO QCD and electroweak contributions to the neutral Drell Yan process that are linear in the Wilson coefficients of the SMEFT theory.

Exploring the SMEFT at dimension eight with Drell-Yan transverse momentum measurements

We demonstrate that measurements of the neutral-current Drell-Yan transverse momentum distribution binned in invariant mass are sensitive to unexplored dimension-eight parameters of the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT). These distributions are sensitive to four-fermion operators with additional QCD field strength tensors. The determination of the Wilson coefficients of these operators provides a useful diagnostic tool that distinguishes possible ultraviolet completions of the SMEFT. We study how well these effects can be probed by current LHC data, and explore the sensitivity of the future high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) to these operators. Standard model EFT and the Drell-Yan process at high energy

The Drell-Yan process is a copious source of lepton pairs at high energy and is measured with great precision at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Barring any new light particles, beyond the Standard Model effects can be studied in Drell-Yan production using an effective field theory. At tree level, new 4-fermion interactions dominate, while at one loop operators modifying 3-gauge boson couplings contribute effects that are enhanced at high energy. We study the sensitivity of the neutral Drell-Yan process to these dimension-6 operators and compare the sensitivity to that of W⁺W^- pair production at the LHC.

Removing flat directions in standard model EFT fits: How polarized electron-ion collider data can complement the LHC

We study the potential of future electron-ion collider (EIC) data to probe four-fermion operators in the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT). The ability to perform measurements with both polarized electron and proton beams at the EIC provides a powerful tool that can disentangle the effects from different SMEFT operators. We compare the potential constraints from an EIC with those obtained from Drell-Yan data at the Large Hadron Collider. We show that EIC data play an important complementary role since they probe combinations of Wilson coefficients not accessible through available Drell-Yan measurements.

NLO QCD corrections to Drell-Yan processes in the SANC framework

NLO QCD corrections to charged and neutral current Drell-Yan processes are computed with help of the computer system SANC. At the partonic level both quark-antiquark and quark-gluon scattering channels are taken into account. Subtraction of collinear singularities in the massive quark scheme is compared with the one in the MS-bar scheme. Numerical results at the hadronic level are received for the LHC conditions with help of Monte-Carlo integrators and event generator programs based on the standard SANC modules. Comparison with analogous results of the MCFM package is shown.
