The landfill has accepted non-hazardous solid wastes since it opened in 1970. Hazardous and liquid wastes also were accepted during the facility's first ten years of operation. Since 1980, groundwater monitoring has been implemented to address regulatory and owner/operator concerns regarding potential waste migration from the landfill. The case study illustrates the principle that an effective groundwater monitoring program must be responsive to site-specific hydrogeologic and facility characteristics. In this study, we investigate how the regional climate model HIRHAM5 reproduces the spatial and temporal distribution of Arctic snowfall when compared to CloudSat satellite observations during the examined period of 2007–2010. Crustal and uppermost mantle structure of Cape Verde from ambient noise tomography

SUMMARY We present a seismic ambient noise tomography of the Cape Verde archipelago, located in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 600 km west of Senegal. We used 38 seismic broad-band stations that continuously recorded for 10 months, in order to construct the first 3-D model of Sv-wave velocities for the crust and uppermost mantle beneath the Cape Verde region. We started by computing phase cross-correlations for vertical component recordings using all possible inter-island station pairs.
