J / ψ p scattering length from GlueX threshold measurements

Title: $J / ψ p$ scattering length from GlueX threshold measurements

Abstract

The quality of the recent GlueX J/ψ photoproduction data from Hall D at Jefferson Laboratory and the proximity of the data to the energy threshold, gives access to a variety of interesting physics aspects. As an example, an estimation of the J/ψ-nucleon scattering length α_J/ψp is provided within the vector meson dominance model. It results in |α_J/ψp| = (3.08 ± 0.55 (stat.) ± 0.42 (syst.)) mfm which is much smaller than a typical size of a hadron.

The high accuracy Φ-meson photoproduction data from the CLAS experiment in Hall B of Jefferson Laboratory allow us to determine the near-threshold total cross section of the γp →Φp reaction and use it for evaluating the Φp scattering length α_Φp. These data result in an absolute value of |α_Φp| = ( 0.063 ± 0.010 ) fm, which is smaller than the typical hadron size. A comparative analysis of α_Φp with the previously determined scattering lengths for ωp and J/ψp from the A2 and GlueX experiments is performed.

Under the framework of vector meson dominance model, the value of scattering length can be expressed as a function of the ratio between total cross section σ(W) and R(W), where R(W) is the ratio between final momentum |p₃| and initial momentum |p₁| and positively correlated with the center-of-mass energy. Based on the theoretical study of charmonium's photoproduction within two gluon exchange model and effective Pomeron model, we research the scattering lengths of vector mesons and proton interaction in this work. Plausibility of the LHCb $P_{c} {(4312)}^{+}$ in the GlueX $γ p \to J / ψ p$ total cross sections

New high-statistics total cross-section data for γp → J/ψp from the gluonic excitation (GlueX) experiment are fitted in a search for the exotic P_c(4312)⁺ state observed by the Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) Collaboration. The integrated luminosity of this GlueX experiment was about 320 pb^–1. The fits show that destructive interference involving an S-wave resonance and associated nonresonance background produces a sharp dip structure about 77 MeV below the LHCb mass, in the same location as a similar structure is seen in the data. Limitations of the employed model and the need for improved statistics are discussed.

Nucleon dissociation and incoherent $J / ψ$ photoproduction on nuclei in ion ultraperipheral collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Using the general notion of cross section fluctuations in hadron-nucleus scattering at high energies, we derive an expression for the cross section of incoherent J/ψ photoproduction on heavy nuclei dσ_{γA → J/ψY} /dt, which includes both elastic dσ_{γ → Jψp}/ dt and proton-dissociation dσ_{γp → J/ψY} /dt photoproduction on target nucleons. We find that, with good accuracy, dσ_{γA → J/ψY} /dt can be expressed as a product of the sum of the dσ_{γp → J/ψp} /dt and dσ_{γp → J/ψY} /dt cross sections, which have been measured at HERA, and the common nuclear shadowing factor, which is calculated usingmore »« less
