Title: Tensor supercurrent in QCD

Abstract

An external Abelian magnetic field excites in the QCD vacuum a tensor super current that represents the tensor polarization of the chiral condensate. This tensor supercurrent can be deduced from the chiral lagrangian in the presence of anoma lies; a similar tensor supercurrent emerges in rotating systems at finite chemical potential. We discuss the microscopic origin of this supercurrent and argue that it screens the instanton-anti-instanton $$I\overline I$$ molecules in the QCD vacuum, similarly to the vector supercurrent screening Abrikosov vortices in a superconductor. A number of possible experimental manifestations of the tensor supercurrent are discussed: i) spin alignment of axial-vector and vector mesons in heavy ion collisions; ii) tensor charge of the nucleon; iii) transversity of quark distributions in polarized nucleons.

We investigate the magnetic susceptibility of the QCD vacuum with the 1/N{sub c} corrections taken into account, based on the instanton vacuum. Starting from the instanton liquid model, we derive the gauged light-quark partition function in the presence of the current quark mass as well as of external Abelian vector and tensor fields. We consider the 1/N{sub c} meson-loop corrections which are shown to contribute to the magnetic susceptibility by around 15% for the up (and down) quarks. Mass sum rule of hadrons in the QCD instanton vacuum

We briefly review the key aspect of the QCD instanton vacuum in relation to the quantum breaking of conformal symmetry and the trace anomaly. We use Ji’s invariant mass decomposition of the energy momentum tensor together with the trace anomaly to discuss the mass budget of the nucleon and pion in the QCD instanton vacuum. A measure of the gluon condensate in the nucleon is a measure of the compressibility of the QCD instanton vacuum as a dilute topological liquid.

In this paper we explore the idea that the chiral phase transition in QCD can be described as a transition from a disordered instanton liquid to a strongly correlated phase of polarized instanton--anti-instanton molecules. We calculate the degree of polarization of the molecules as a function of the temperature and show that the resulting [ital T] dependence of the fermion determinant drives the chiral phase transition. We also show how the polarization of the molecules can lead to a nontrivial behavior of the energy density and pressure. Scalar, vector, and tensor form factors for the pion and kaon from lattice QCD

We present a calculation of the scalar, vector and tensor form factors for the pion and kaon in lattice QCD. We use an ensemble of two degenerate light, a strange and a charm quark (N_f = 2 + 1 + 1) of maximally twisted mass fermions with clover improvement. The corresponding pion and kaon masses are about 265 MeV and 530 MeV, respectively. The calculation is done in both rest and boosted frames obtaining data for four-vector momentum transfer squared up to –q² = 2.5 GeV² for the pion and 3 GeV² for the kaon. The excited-states effects are studied by analyzing six values of the source-sink time separation for the rest frame (1.12 – 2.23 fm) and for four values for the boosted frame (1.12 – 1.67 fm).
