Based on the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in 12 surface sediment samples from Yellow Sea, the relative risk of 9 PAHs was investigated using joint risk probability distribution curves and overlapping area, which were generated based on the distributions of exposure and acute toxicity data (LC50), and the sources of PAHs were apportioned using principal component analysis. Hydrochemical monitoring and heavy metal speciation by sequential extraction techniques indicate direct relationships among enrichment of the heavy metals (copper, lead, zinc, iron, manganese, and cadmium), soil acidification, and salinization in Kedron Brook floodplain area of Brisbane, Australia. The relationship between benthic oxygen demand and the sediment-water flux of six heavy metals (cobalt [Co], nickel [Ni], copper [Cu], zinc [Zn], cadmium [Cd], and lead [Pb]) was examined at two locations: New Bedford Harbor and Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, USA.
