The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Alternative Test Procedure protocol outlines a method to produce chlorine-stressed bacteria for water quality testing. Achieving consistent results is challenging due effluent variability. We describe methods for generating chlorine-stressed total coliforms from secondary effluent to evaluate detection technologies to demonstrate comparability to EPA reference methods
