Analysis of 12,000 km of 2-D multifold seismic data shows three large Cenozoic wedges of deepwater deposits in the Perdido fold belt that differ in seismic facies, areal distribution, and potential reservoir geometries. The Perdido fold belt in the Alaminos Canyon OCS protraction area contains some of the largest, untested structural traps within US waters. The overall structural geometry of the fold belt is relatively simple, although individual structures show a complex array of structural styles. Previous interpretations have modeled these structures as either growth fault-bend folds or salt-cored detachment folds. Structural interpretation of high quality 2D seismic data, combined with detailed analysis of the growth strata and both 2D and 3D restorations provides the necessary control to model these structures accurately. The Volume of Gas Hydrate-Bound Gas in the Northern Gulf of Mexico

The northern Gulf of Mexico is known to host gas hydrate in submarine sediments. Estimating the amount of gas hydrate for both carbon cycle and resource interest has been ongoing for more than three decades. A large range of estimates (from 0.2 to 680 trillion cubic meters (TCM)) for hydrate-bound natural gas at standard temperature and pressure exists. We bring a new perspective to resource estimates by using ~800 publicly available petroleum industry well logs assessed for natural gas hydrate.
