Title: Characterization of shielding materials used in neutron scattering instrumentation

Abstract

The nuclear cross-sections of certain isotopes make some materials excellent candidates for neutron shielding. We have performed a series of measurements examining the transmission, reflection, and nuclear Bragg scattering of a series of common materials used for neutron shielding. Here, we concentrate on characterizing the materials most likely to be used in neutron scattering instrumentation.
