Magnetic and martensitic transformations in Ni₄₈Co₂Mn₃₅In₁₅ melt-spun ribbons

As-solidified Ni₄₈Co₂Mn₃₅In₁₅ ribbons were prepared through the melt-spinning method, and their structural, magnetic, magnetocaloric properties, and martensitic transformations were investigated. The inverse martensitic transformation temperature (T_A=325 K) for the melt spun ribbons shifted by 55 K to higher temperature relative to that of the bulk material (T_A = 270 K). The working temperature range of the magnetic entropy change (ΔS_M) in Ni₄₈Co₂Mn₃₅In₁₅ ribbons has been significantly expanded relative to that of bulk. The roles of the magnetostructural transitions on the magneto-responsive properties of the ribbons are discussed.

Large reversible magnetic entropy change in rapidly solidified Ni_0.895C_r0.105MnGe_1.05 melt-spun ribbons

The crystal structure, and magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of rapidly solidified Ni_0.895Cr_0.105MnGe_1.05 melt-spun ribbons is reported. The ribbon samples crystallize into a single-phase hexagonal Ni₂In-type structure at room temperature. The as-quenched ribbons showed a second order magnetic transition at 192 ± 1 K at μ_oH = 5 mT. A magnetic-field-induced transition from an antiferromagnetic (AFM)-like to a ferromagnetic (FM) state of martensite structure was observed in annealed ribbons below the temperature of the martensitic transformation (T_M ~ 245 ± 1 K). Magnetostructural transitions and magnetocaloric effects in Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75 ribbons

The structural, thermal, and magnetic behaviors, as well as the martensitic phase transformation and related magnetocaloric response of Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75 annealed ribbons have been investigated using room-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and magnetization measurements. Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75 annealed ribbons show a sharper change in magnetization at the martensitic transition, resulting in larger magnetic entropy changes in comparison to bulk Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75.
