The microstructure of geological solids is affected by their deposition history, which generates complex systems of grain contacts and damage patterns able to induce mechanical anisotropy. Here this paper aims to disclose the connection between energy storage and the yield surface of cross-anisotropic granular rocks, with the goal to simplify the representation of their mechanical anisotropy. Abstract Although poroelastic models are often used to explain the delay between subsurface fluid depletion and ground subsidence, inelastic compaction involving permanent changes of rock microstructure may exacerbate hydro‐mechanical coupling, thus influencing the interpretation of measurements and long‐term forecasts. Here, a multi‐scale modeling approach is discussed, which accounts for the inherent connection between rock microstructure, hydraulic conductivity, and pore compaction. Mechanical behavior of granular materials and particle breakage at high stress

This study presents the results of an extensive experimental investigation of the behavior of granular materials at high stress. The many types of experiments performed are drained triaxial compression tests with an overall confining pressure range of 0.5 to 60 MPa and one dimensional compression tests up to 75 MPa axial stress level. Two grain size distributions were investigated using drained triaxial compression tests and one dimensional tests.
