The power spectra of Cherenkov, synchrotron, and synchrotron--Cherenkov radiation are calculated both classically (by source methods) and quantum mechanically (by mass operator methods). The synergic features of the synchrotron--Cherenkov radiation are pointed out. Nucks1 synergizes with Trp53 to promote radiation lymphomagenesis in mice

NUCKS1 is a 27 kD vertebrate-specific protein, with a role in the DNA damage response. Here, we show that after 4 Gy total-body X-irradiation, Trp53+/- Nucks1+/- mice more rapidly developed tumors, particularly thymic lymphoma (TL), than Trp53+/- mice. TLs in both cohorts showed loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of the Trp53+ allele in essentially all cases. In contrast, LOH of the Nucks1+ allele was rare. Nucks1 expression correlated well with Nucks1 gene dosage in normal thymi, but was increased in the majority of TLs from Trp53+/- Nucks1+/- mice, suggesting that elevated Nucks1 message may be associated with progression towards malignancy inmore »« less

Quantum theory of stimulated Cherenkov emission and stimulated compton scattering of electromagnetic waves by a low-density relativistic electron beam

A quantum theory of instabilities of a relativistic electron beam due to the stimulated Cherenkov effect in a dielectric and the stimulated Compton effect in vacuum is presented. The instability growth rates are found in a linear approximation and are shown to go over to the familiar growth rates in the classical approximation. A nonlinear theory of instabilities in the quantum case is developed. Analytic solutions are obtained that describe the nonlinear saturation of the amplitudes of the electromagnetic waves emitted by the beam.

Cherenkov Radiation from e+e- Pairs and Its Effect on nu e InducedShowers

We calculate the Cherenkov radiation from an e{sup +}e{sup -} pair at small separations, as occurs shortly after a pair conversion. The radiation is reduced (compared to that from two independent particles) when the pair separation is smaller than the wavelength of the emitted light. We estimate the reduction in light in large electromagnetic showers, and discuss the implications for detectors that observe Cherenkov radiation from showers in the Earth's atmosphere, as well as in oceans and Antarctic ice.
