We study the properties of vortices in two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets with spin magnitude {ital S} on a square lattice within the framework of Schwinger-boson mean-field theory. Based on a continuum description, we show that vortices are stable topological excitations in the disordered state of quantum antiferromagnets. Spin dynamics of the triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnet: A Schwinger-boson approach

We have analyzed the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice using a Schwinger-boson mean-field theory. By expanding around a state with local 120{degree} order, we obtain, in the limit of infinite spin, results for the excitation spectrum in complete agreement with linear spin-wave theory (LSWT). In contrast to LSWT, however, the modes at the ordering wave vectors acquire a mass for finite spin. We discuss the origin of this effect.

We develop a bosonic mean-field theory to describe the spiral phases of a Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a one-dimensional chain, in terms of three bosons at each site. The ground state is disordered, and for large values of the spin [ital S], two different and exponentially small energy gaps are found. The spin-spin correlation function is computed and is shown to decay exponentially at large distances. Our mean-field theory is also shown to be exact in a large-[ital N] generalization.

Slave-boson mean-field theory of the antiferromagnetic state in the doubly degenerate Hubbard model: The half-filled case

The antiferromagnetic ground state of the half-filled Hubbard model with the doubly degenerate orbital has been studied by using the slave-boson mean-field theory, which was previously proposed by the present author. Numerical calculations for the simple cubic model have shown that the metal-insulator transition does not take place except at the vanishing interaction point, in strong contrast with its paramagnetic solution. The energy gap in the density of states of the antiferromagnetic insulator is much reduced by the effect of electron correlation.
