Spontaneous parity breaking in three-dimensional non-Abelian gauge theory

We study the parity-odd part of the gauge field two-point function in the effective action in three-dimensional non-Abelian gauge theory with both Higgs fields and the Chern-Simons term. It is shown that, contrary to a previous proposal, there is no hint of spontaneous parity breakdown up to one-loop level, if care is taken to turn off the Chern-Simons coefficient before expanding the effective action into local terms. {copyright}{ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}

These models have attracted recent attention as being dual, in the conformal phase, to theories of higher spin gravity on AdS 4. Using the 0t Hooft large N expansion, exact solutions are obtained for scalar current correlators in the massive phase where the conformal symmetry is spontaneously broken. A massless dilaton appears as a composite state, and its properties are discussed. Solutions exist for matters field that are either bosons or fermions.

The landsat scale break in stratocumulus as a three-dimensional radiative transfer effect: Implications for cloud remote sensing

Several studies have uncovered a break in the scaling properties of Landsat cloud scenes at nonabsorbing wavelengths. For scales greater than 200-400 m, the wavenumber spectrum is approximately power law in k{sup {minus}5/3}, but from there down to the smallest observable scales (50-100 m) follows another k{sup {minus}{beta}} law with {beta} > 3. This implies very smooth radiance fields. The authors reexamine the empirical evidence for this scale break and explain it using fractal cloud models.
