The prediction of the long term trace element mobility in anthropogenic soils would be a way to anticipate land management and should help in reusing slightly contaminated materials. In the present study, iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) status evolution was investigated in a 100-year old Technosol. The site of investigation is an old brownfield located in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region (France) which has not been reshaped since the beginning of the last century. Consequentially, the desire to use zinc and antimony as framework elements to encage rattling cations and achieve phonon-glass-electron-crystal-type properties has remained an enticing goal with only two alkali metal clathrates to date, Cs₈Zn₁₈Sb₂₈ and K₅₈Zn₁₂₂Sb₂₀₇. Cd, Cu and Zn solubility in arable and forest soils: Consequences of land use changes for metal mobility and risk assessment

The effect of land use, total metal content and soil parameters on the distribution of Cd, Zn, and Cu between the solid phase and soil solution is examined in a large field survey. In situ soil solution samples were obtained by centrifugation of field moist soil samples from six depth layers in 30 Dutch forest and arable soils. The soils vary in texture, pH, organic matter content, and land use and represent major soil types in the Netherlands.
