Air–water interfacial monolayers of poly((d,l-lactic acid-ran-glycolic acid)-block-ethylene glycol) (PLGA–PEG) exhibit an exponential increase in surface pressure under high monolayer compression. The static structure and dynamics of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles within poly(styrene-block-isoprene) diblock copolymer melts

Here, the static structure and dynamic behavior of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles suspended in block copolymer matrix are investigated using transmission electron microscopy, small-angle X-ray scattering, and X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy. The transmission electron micro- scopy study shows that cadmium sulfide nanoparticles are preferentially segregated within the polyisoprene domain of a poly(styrene-block-isoprene) diblock copolymer. For the dynamics study, X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy captures the relaxation process of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles. The measured characteristic relaxation time reveals that the observed dynamics are hyperdiffusive. Starch/Poly(ε-caprolactone) Graft Copolymers Synthetized by γ-Radiation and Their Application as Compatibilizer in Polymer Blends

Synthesis of starch-graft-poly(-caprolactone) copolymers (St-g-PCL) was achieved under vacuum by employing low doses of {sup 60}Co γ-radiation. Irradiation synthesis was carried out by using glass vials containing gelatinized starch suspension and ε-caprolactone (-CL) monomer. Two starch:-CL mass ratios were employed 1:0.1 and 1:10. Irradiated samples were exhaustively treated with chloroform in order to remove homopolymer traces. Fourier transform infrared spectra of extracted samples showed a characteristic band associated to stretching vibration of carbonyl group, an indicative that PCL was grafted onto starch backbone. Thickness dependent hierarchical meso/nano scale morphologies of a metal-containing block copolymer thin film induced by hybrid annealing and their pattern transfer abilities.

In this paper we describe dewetting phenomena in organic (polystyrene, PS)/inorganic (polyferrocenyldimethylsilane, PFS) block copolymer thin films. Mesoscale dendritic structures are induced when the spin-cast thin film of this polymer is subjected to so-called hybrid annealing, which involves both thermal and solvent annealing. We show that the development and arrangement of these mesoscale dendritic structures depends on the initial film thickness in addition to the annealing time.
