Title: A precise measurement of the direct CP violation parameter $$\mathrm{Re}(\varepsilon'/\varepsilon)$$

Abstract

The direct CP violation parameter Re(ε'/ε) has been measured from the decay rates of neutral kaons into two pions using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. With 3.3 million K L → π⁰ π⁰ events collected during the 1998 and 1999 running periods, a result of Re(ε'/ε) = (15.0 ± 2.7) × 10^-4 has been obtained. Finally, the result combined with the published 1997 sample is Re(ε'/ε) = (15.3 ± 2.6) × 10^-4.

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the ^±→π^±π⁰e⁺e^- decay from an exposure of 1.7 x 10¹¹ charged kaon decays recorded in 2003–2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR (K^± → π^±π⁰e⁺e^- = (4.24 ± 0.14) x 10^-6. Finally the study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated.

The direct emission (DE) and interference (INT) terms of the radiative decay K{sup {+-}} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup 0}{gamma} have been measured by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS. About 6 10{sup 5} K{sup {+-}} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup 0}{gamma} decays have been selected from data collected during 2003 and 2004. CP Violation Results from the NA48 experiments

The main goal of the NA48 experiments at the CERN SPS has been the search for direct CP violation (CPV) in kaon decays. In this article two selected results will be presented. In the neutral kaon sector, NA48 determined {eta}{sub +-}, related to the parameters of indirect and direct CPV ({eta}{sub +-} {epsilon}+{epsilon}{sup '}), from data collected during a dedicated run in 1999 with a pure K{sub L} beam. Measurements of Direct CP Violation, CPT Symmetry, and Other Parameters in the Neutral Kaon System

The authors present precision measurements of the direct CP violation parameter, Re(ϵ'/ϵ), the kaon parameters, Δm and τ_S, and the CPT tests, Φ_± and ΔΦ, in neutral kaon decays. These results are based on the full dataset collected by the KTeV experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory during 1996, 1997, and 1999.
