We performed an in situ calibration of the relative responsivity function of the Long-Wavelength Extreme Ultraviolet Spectrometer (LoWEUS), while operating on the Lithium Tokamak Experiment (LTX) at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. The calibration was accomplished by measuring oxygen lines, which are typically present in LTX plasmas. The measured spectral line intensities of each oxygen charge state were then compared to the calculated emission strengths given in the CHIANTI atomic database. Normalizing the strongest line in each charge state to the CHIANTI predictions, we obtained the differences between the measured and predicted values for the relative strengths of the other linesmore »« less

Absolute calibration of a time-resolved high resolution x-ray spectrometer for the National Ignition Facility (invited)

A high resolution, Diagnostic Instrument Manipulator (DIM)-based x-ray Bragg crystal spectrometer has been calibrated for and deployed at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) to diagnose plasma conditions in ignition capsules near stagnation times. The spectrometer has two conical crystals in the Hall geometry focusing rays from the Kr Heα, Lyα, and Heβ complexes onto a streak camera, with the physics objectives of measuring time-resolved electron density and temperature through observing Stark broadening and the relative intensities of dielectronic satellites. Calibration of the OHREX high-resolution imaging crystal spectrometer at the Livermore electron beam ion traps [Calibration of the OHREX high-resolution imaging crystal spectrometer at the Livermore EBIT]

Here, we report the calibration of the Orion High-Resolution X-ray (OHREX) imaging crystal spectrometer at the EBIT-I electron beam ion trap at Livermore. Two such instruments, dubbed OHREX-1 and OHREX-2, are fielded for plasma diagnostics at the Orion laser facility in the United Kingdom. The OHREX spectrometer can simultaneously house two spherically bent crystals with a radius of curvature of r=67.2 cm. The focusing properties of the spectrometer allow both for larger distance to the source due to the increase in collected light and for observation of extended sources. The Lithium Tokamak eXperiment (LTX) is a spherical tokamak device designed to study lithium plasma facing components (PFCs). The lithium coated wall of LTX has been demonstrated to produce a plasma edge with high electron temperature (200 eV or greater). Plasma density in the outer scrape-off layer (SOL) is also found to be very low, around 2 × 10¹⁷m^-3, as a result of the low recycling lithium boundary. The high temperature, low collisionality region of the plasma extends into the SOL.
