Reaction of anhydrous UO{sub 2}Cl{sub 2} with 2 equiv of KN(SiMe{sub 3})2 in THF leads to formation of the neutral bis(amido) complex UO{sub 2}[N(SiMe{sub 3})2]2 (1), whereas the use of 2, 3, or 4 equiv of NaN(SiMe{sub 3})2 in an analogous reaction produces the tetrakis (amido) salt [Na(THF){sub 2}]2[UO{sub 2}[N(SiMe{sub 3})2]4] (2). From the addition of Na/Hg (1 equiv) to a WCl/sub 4/ slurry in THF (THF = tetrahydrofuran) was obtained the green crystalline compound NaW/sub 2/Cl/sub 7/(THF)/sub 5/ in 60-70% recrystallized yields. The compound has been shown to involve a confacial bioctahedral W/sub 2/Cl/sub 7/(THF)/sub 2//sup -/ anion coordinated to a (THF)/sub 3/Na/sup +/ cation via two chloride ligands that are terminally bonded to W atoms. Reaction of Sm(O-2,6-i-Pr[sub 2]C[sub 6]H[sub 3])[sub 3](THF)[sub 2] (1) with 3 equiv of LiCH[sub 2]SiMe[sub 3] in THF solution produces the salt complex (Me[sub 3]SiCH[sub 2])Sm[([mu]-OAr)([mu]-CH[sub 2]SiMe[sub 3])Li (THF)][([mu] -OAr)[sub 2]Li(THF)] (2, Ar = 2,6-i-Pr[sub 2]C[sub 6]H[sub 3]) in 58% yield. [sup 1]H and [sup 13]C NMR are extremely complex, while [sup 7]Li NMR is indicative of an equilibrium between 2 and free LiO-2,6-i-Pr[sub 2]C[sub 6]H[sub 3] in solution. The products obtained from the reaction between alkyne adducts and ditungsten hexaalkoxides and nitriles are described. This study was undertaken to determine whether a C-C bond formation or methansis reactions occurred. The data indicated that the formation of C-C bonds and additional metal-ligand bonds is favored over methasis reactions.
