Temperature dependence of the product branching ratio of the CN + O{sub 2} reaction

The reaction of CN radicals with O{sub 2} was studied using infrared diode laser absorption spectroscopy. CO and CO{sub 2} products were detected directly, while the yield of NCO products was inferred by measuring the N{sub 2}O yield upon addition of excess NO. Experiments and kinetic modeling calculations were performed to examine the extent of secondary chemistry in this system. The following branching ratios of the CN + O{sub 2} reaction at 296 K were determined: {phi}(N+CO{sub 2}) = 0.02 {+-} 0.01 and {phi}(CO+NO) = 0.22 {+-} 0.02. The reaction of cobalt(III) acetate with excess manganese(II) acetate in acetic acid occurs in two stages, since the two forms Co(IIIc) and Co(IIIs) are not rapidly equilibrated and thus react independently. The rate constants at 24.5 C are {kappa}{sub c} = 37.1 {+-} 0.6 L mol{sup {minus}1} s{sup {minus}1} and {kappa}{sub s} = 6.8 {+-} 0.2 L mol{sup {minus}1} s{sup {minus}1} at 24.5 C in glacial acetic acid. The Mn(III) produced forms a dinuclear complex with the excess of Mn(II). Kinetic studies of the reactions of H sub 2 CN and D sub 2 CN radicals with N and H

Absolute rate constants for the reactions of H{sub 2}CN and D{sub 2}CN with N atoms have been measured by using the discharge flow-mass spectrometry technique between 200 and 363 K. No isotope effect was observed. The results are as follows (10{sup {minus}11} cm{sup 3} s{sup {minus}1}): k{sub 1}(200 K) = 3.9 {plus minus} 2.2, K{sub 1}(298 K) = 4.4 {plus minus} 1.4, k{sub 1}(363 K) = 6.7 {plus minus} 2.0. We present a joint crossed molecular beam and kinetics investigation combined with electronic structure and statistical calculations on the reaction of the ground-state cyano radical, CN(X {sup 2}{Sigma}{sup +}), with the 1,3-butadiene molecule, H{sub 2}CCHCHCH{sub 2}(X {sup 1} A{sub g}), and its partially deuterated counterparts, H{sub 2}CCDCDCH{sub 2}(X {sup 1} A{sub g}) and D{sub 2}CCHCHCD{sub 2}(X {sup 1} A{sub g}).
