ZnSiP2 demonstrates promising potential as an optically active material on silicon. There has been a longstanding need for wide band gap materials that can be integrated with Si for tandem photovoltaics and other optoelectronic applications. ZnSiP2 is an inexpensive, earth abundant, wide band gap material that is stable and lattice matched with silicon. This conference proceeding summarizes our PV-relevant work on bulk single crystal ZnSiP2, highlighting the key findings and laying the ground work for integration into Si-based tandem devices.

Analytical modeling of the interfacial stress state during pushout testing of SCS-6/Ti-based composites

Analytical and experimental investigations were performed to determine the stress components responsible for interfacial debonding during pushout testing. The stress distributions along the fiber/matrix interface were modeled using finite element methods. Both thermal residual stresses as well as mechanical stresses were accounted for in the analysis. The analysis was performed for two SCS-6/Ti-based composite systems. The analytical results were calculated based on experimentally determined fiber debonding loads obtained at different specimen thicknesses and testing temperatures. Designing nickel base alloys for microstructural stability through low γ-γ' interfacial energy and lattice misfit

In this paper, an extended stability alloy design strategy for multicomponent γ-γ' nickel-base alloys with near-zero lattice misfit and as low as possible interfacial energy was investigated by isothermal annealing of two experimental alloys at 900 °C for times up to 256 h. The coarsening behavior of the spherical γ' precipitates and the phase compositions determined by atom probe tomography were utilized to exploit a modified Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner relationship to estimate the interfacial energies.
