The impact of impurities on the thermal conductivity of halide vapor phase epitaxy gallium nitride (GaN) was studied. Phonon resonances with impurities, modeled as Lorentz oscillators, were used to explain the much lower thermal conductivity than predicted by the Debye–Callaway model. The resonance energies for the oscillators were determined by Raman spectroscopy for Mn and by mass difference approximation for C and Fe. Employing the obtained resonance energies and proportionality factors extracted as fitting parameters, the modified model showed a good agreement with the experimental data. Novel properties of penta-graphene (PG) have stimulated great interest in exploring its potential for device applications. Here, we systematically study the interfacial properties of the heterojunctions constructed by stacking PG on several metal substrates (Ag, Al, Au, Cr, Cu, Pd, and Ti), which are commonly used in field-effect transistors. We consider PG as the channel material because of its semiconducting feature, while treating the metal surfaces as the electrodes. Penta-graphene: A new carbon allotrope

A 2D metastable carbon allotrope, penta-graphene, composed entirely of carbon pentagons and resembling the Cairo pentagonal tiling, is proposed in this paper. State-of-the-art theoretical calculations confirm that the new carbon polymorph is not only dynamically and mechanically stable, but also can withstand temperatures as high as 1000 K. Due to its unique atomic configuration, penta-graphene has an unusual negative Poisson’s ratio and ultrahigh ideal strength that can even outperform graphene.
