Gauge-equivariant flow models for sampling in lattice field theories with pseudofermions

This work presents gauge-equivariant architectures for flow-based sampling in fermionic lattice field theories using pseudofermions as stochastic estimators for the fermionic determinant. This is the default approach in state-of-the-art lattice field theory calculations, making this development critical to the practical application of flow models to theories such as QCD. Methods by which flow-based sampling approaches can be improved via standard techniques such as even/odd preconditioning and the Hasenbusch factorization are also outlined. Numerical demonstrations in two-dimensional U(1) and SU(3) gauge theories with N_f = 2 flavors of fermions are provided.

Gauge-invariant, nonperturbative approach to quark confinement and chiral-symmetry breaking in QCD

A gauge-invariant, nonperturbative approach to quark confinement and chiral-symmetry breaking in the context of the Schwinger-Dyson equations and corresponding Slavnov-Taylor identities is presented. Making only one widely accepted assumption that the full gluon propagator becomes an infrared singularity like {ital q}{sup {minus}4} at small momenta, we obtain a nonperturbative, gauge-invariant, infrared-finite quark propagator, which has no pole (confinement-type solution) and implies chiral-symmetry breaking (dynamical quark mass generation), so that we establish a close connection between these nonperturbative phenomena. Zero Temperature Chiral Phase Transition in SU({ital N}) Gauge Theories

We investigate the zero temperature chiral phase transition in an SU({ital N}) gauge theory as the number of fermions {ital N}{sub {ital f}} is varied. We argue that there exists a critical number of fermions {ital N}{sup {ital c}}{sub {ital f}}, above which there is no chiral symmetry breaking or confinement, and below which both chiral symmetry breaking and confinement set in.
