In this paper, the recent realization of topological electronic states such as Dirac and Weyl fermions in real materials and their potential for future energy and electronics applications has motivated interest in the study of new forms of topological behavior embodied through new materials. In the Dirac-Weyl semimetal, the chiral anomaly appears as an “axial” current arising from charge pumping between the lowest (chiral) Landau levels of the Weyl nodes, when an electric field is applied parallel to a magnetic field B . Evidence for the chiral anomaly was obtained from the longitudinal magnetoresistance (LMR) in Na₃Bi and GdPtBi. However, current-jetting effects (focusing of the current density J) have raised general concerns about LMR experiments. Extremely large nonsaturating magnetoresistance and ultrahigh mobility due to topological surface states in the metallic ${Bi}_{2} {Te}_{3}$ topological insulator

Here, weak antilocalization (WAL) effects in Bi₂Te₃ single crystals have been investigated at high and low bulk charge carrier concentrations. At low charge carrier density the WAL curves scale with the normal component of the magnetic field, demonstrating the dominance of topological surface states in magnetoconductivity. At high charge carrier density the WAL curves scale with neither the applied field nor its normal component, implying a mixture of bulk and surface conduction. WAL due to topological surface states shows no dependence on the nature (electrons or holes) of the bulk charge carriers. Gapless Surface Dirac Cone in Antiferromagnetic Topological Insulator ${MnBi}_{2} {Te}_{4}$

The recently discovered antiferromagnetic topological insulators in the Mn-Bi-Te family with intrinsic magnetic ordering have rapidly drawn broad interest since its cleaved surface state is believed to be gapped, hosting the unprecedented axion states with a half-integer quantum Hall effect. Here, however, we show unambiguously by using high-resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy that a gapless Dirac cone at the (0001) surface of MnBi2Te4 exists inside the bulk band gap. Such an unexpected surface state remains unchanged across the bulk N´eel temperature, and is even robust against severe surface degradation, indicating additional topological protection.
