Superconductivity in the intermetallic compound Zr₅ Al₄

Polycrystalline Zr₅Al₄ was synthesized using the arc-melting method. Powder X-ray diffraction confirms the previously reported crystal structure of the Ti₅Ga₄ -type (P6₃/mcm) with lattice parameters: a = 8.4312(6) Å, and c = 5.7752(8) Å. Electrical resistivity and low-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate that Zr₅Al₄ exhibits superconducting behavior below 2K. The normalized heat capacity jump at T_c = 1.82 K, ΔC/γT_c = 1.50, confirms the bulk superconductivity. The Sommerfeld coefficient γ = 28.5 mJ mol^-1 K^-2 and the Debye temperature Θ_D = 320 K were obtained by fitting the low-temperature heat capacity data. Superconductivity in the Endohedral Ga Cluster Compound PdGa ₅

Superconductivity is observed below T_c = 1.6 K in an endohedral Ga cluster compound PdGa₅ using magnetization and heat capacity measurements. Electronic structure calculations show that the density of states (DOS) at the Fermi level is dominated by Ga s and p states and that the overall shape of DOS is similar to what was found in other endohedral Ga cluster superconductors, such as Mo_xGa_5x+1, ReGa₅, and T₂Ga₉ (T = Rh and Ir). Our results provide a more complete picture of the relationship between the valence electron count and superconductivity in the family of endohedral Ga cluster superconductors.

Observation of three superconducting transitions in the pressurized CDW-bearing compound TaTe 2

Transition metal dichalcogenides host a wide variety of lattice and electronic structures, as well as corresponding exotic physical properties, especially under certain tuning conditions. Here, we report the observation of pressure-induced three superconducting transitions in TaTe₂, a charge density wave (CDW)–bearing layered transition-metal dichalcogenide that is metallic but not superconducting at ambient pressure. We find that its CDW state can be easily suppressed upon increasing pressure up to ~1 GPa. A superconducting state then emerges from the suppressed CDW state and persists to the pressure about 7 GPa.
