Here, recent studies have shown that global Penman-Monteith equation based (PM-based) models poorly simulate water stress when estimating evapotranspiration (ET) in areas having a Mediterranean climate (AMC). In this study, we propose a novel approach using precipitation, vertical root distribution (VRD), and satellite-retrieved vegetation information to simulate water stress in a PM-based model (RS-WBPM) to address this issue. A multilayer water balance module is employed to simulate the soil water stress factor (SWSF) of multiple soil layers at different depths. Parameterization of the evaporation of rainfall for use in general circulation models

A parameterization of evaporation losses below cloud base is presented for use in general circulation models to assist in quantification of water content in the hydrological cycle. The scheme is based on detailed model calculations of the evolution of raindrop spectra below cloud base and includes the processes of collision coalescence/breakup. The sensitivity of the ECMWF model to the parameterization of evaporation from the tropical oceans

Stimulated by the results of a simple SST anomaly experiment with the ECMWF forecast model, a study was carried out to examine the model parameterization of evaporation from the tropical oceans. In earlier versions of the model, these fluxes were parameterized with neutral transfer coefficients in accordance with the Chamock relation with equal coefficients for momentum, heat, and moisture.
