${}^{3}{He} (α, γ) {}^{7}{Be}$ and ${}^{3}H (α, γ) {}^{7}{Li}$ astrophysical S factors from the no-core shell model with continuum

The ³He(α,γ)⁷Be and ³H(α,γ)⁷Li astrophysical S factors are calculated within the no-core shell model with continuum using a renormalized chiral nucleon–nucleon interaction. The ³He(α,γ)⁷Be astrophysical S factors agree reasonably well with the experimental data while the ³H(α,γ)⁷Li ones are overestimated. The seven-nucleon bound and resonance states and the α + ³He/³H elastic scattering are also studied and compared with experiment. Here, the low-lying resonance properties are rather well reproduced by our approach. At low energies, the s-wave phase shift, which is non-resonant, is overestimated.

This work presents a novel technique to study these reactions with the active target system MUSIC whose segmented anode allows the investigation of a large energy range of the excitation function with a single beam energy. Equality of hemisphere soft functions for $e^{+} e^{-}$ , DIS and pp collisions at $O (α_{s}^{2})$

We present a simple observation about soft amplitudes and soft functions appearing in factorizable cross sections in ee, ep, and pp collisions that has not clearly been made in previous literature, namely, that the hemisphere soft functions that appear in event shape distributions in e⁺e^- → dijets, deep inelastic scattering (DIS), and in Drell–Yan (DY) processes are equal in perturbation theory up to O(α_s²), even though individual amplitudes may have opposite sign imaginary parts due to changing complex pole prescriptions in eikonal propagators for incoming vs. outgoing lines. High transverse momentum jets produced in pp collisions at a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV are used to measure the transverse energy–energy correlation function and its associated azimuthal asymmetry. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in the year 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 158 pb^–1. The selection criteria demand the average transverse momentum of the two leading jets in an event to be larger than 250 GeV.
