Complex samples require multidimensional measurements with high resolution for full characterization of biological and environmental systems. To address this challenge, we developed a drift tube-based ion mobility spectrometry-Orbitrap mass spectrometry (IMS-Orbitrap MS) platform. To circumvent the timing difference between the fast IMS separation and the slow Orbitrap MS acquisition, we utilized a dual gate and pseudorandom sequence to multiplex ions into the drift tube and Orbitrap. New developments for direct monitoring of volatile compounds with an ion trap/time-of-flight mass spectrometer

A new type of direct air-monitoring has been developed that provides real-time, trace detection of a broad range of volatile compounds. This system is being designed for low to sub-part-per-trillion detection and analysis rates of 10-100 milliseconds per scan. To achieve these objectives, an atmospheric-sampling glow discharge ionization (ASGDI) source has been combined with an ion storage trap/time-of-flight mass spectrometer (IS/TOF-MS). A new type of direct air-monitoring device for field analysis is being developed for real-time, trace detection of volatile compounds. The instrument consists of an atmospheric-sampling glow discharge ionization (ASGDI) source coupled to an ion storage trap/time-of-flight mass spectrometer (IS/TOF-MS). Novel ion mobility setup combined with collision cell and time-of-flight mass spectrometer

An ion mobility cell of a novel type was coupled to an orthogonal injection time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer. The mobility cell operates at low-pressure and contains a segmented RF ion guide providing an axial electric field that drives the ions towards the exit. A flow of gas is arranged inside the ion guide in such a way that the gas drag counteracts the force exerted by the axial field.
