We describe here the properties of In{sub 0.53}Ga{sub 0.47}As/In{sub 0.52}Al{sub 0.48}As modulation-doped heterostructures and field-effect transistors grown directly by molecular-beam epitaxy on GaAs substrates. The generation and nature of dislocations in the films have been studied by transmission-electron microscopy. The final heterostructure contains a series of compositional steps of In{sub {ital x}}Ga{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}As (0{le}{ital x}{le}0.53) to generate and control the dislocation movement. The modulation-doped heterostructures are characterized by {mu}{sub 300 K}=8 150 cm{sup 2}/V s ({ital n}{sub {ital s}}=2.7{times}10{sup 12} cm{sup {minus}2}) and {mu}{sub 20 K}=26 100 cm{sup 2}/V s ({ital n}{sub {ital s}}=2.1{times}10{sup 12} cm{sup {minus}2}) which comparemore »« less

Near-Field Nanoimaging of Colloidal Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Waveguides

Bulk transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) nanostructures are regarded as promising material candidates for integrated photonics due to their high refractive index at the near-infrared wavelengths. Here in this work, colloidal TMDC waveguides with tailorable dimensions are prepared by a scalable synthetic approach. The optical waveguiding properties of colloidal nanowires are studied by the near-field nanoimaging technique. In addition to dependence on thickness and wavelength, the excitonic responses and resultant waveguide modes in TMDC nanowires can be modulated by the environmental temperature. Localized parallel parametric generation of spin waves in a Ni{sub 81}Fe{sub 19} waveguide by spatial variation of the pumping field

We present the experimental observation of localized parallel parametric generation of spin waves in a transversally in-plane magnetized Ni{sub 81}Fe{sub 19} magnonic waveguide. The localization is realized by combining the threshold character of parametric generation with a spatially confined enhancement of the amplifying microwave field. The latter is achieved by modulating the width of the microstrip transmission line which is used to provide the pumping field. By employing microfocussed Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy, we analyze the spatial distribution of the generated spin waves and compare it with numerical calculations of the field distribution along the Ni{sub 81}Fe{sub 19} waveguide. Anderson localization with second quantized fields in a coupled array of waveguides

We report a theoretical study of Anderson localization of nonclassical light in an array of waveguides in which neighboring waveguides are evanescently coupled and in which the disorder can be added in a controlled manner. We use squeezed light at the input to investigate the effects of nonclassicality and compare the results with those obtained by using conventional classical fields, such as a coherent field and a Gaussian field. Our results show that there is an enhancement in fluctuations of localized light due to the medium's disorder.
