The filamentary discharge seen within commercial plasma globes is commonly enjoyed yet not well understood. Here, we investigate the discharge properties of a plasma globe using a variable high voltage amplifier. We find that increasing voltage magnitude increases the number of filaments while leaving their individual structure basically unchanged, a result typical of dielectric barrier discharges. The frequency of the voltage also affects filament population but more significantly changes filament structure, with more diffuse filaments seen at lower frequencies. Band structure of the growth rate of the two-stream instability of an electron beam propagating in a bounded plasma

Our paper presents a study of the two-stream instability of an electron beam propagating in a finite-size plasma placed between two electrodes. It is shown that the growth rate in such a system is much smaller than that of an infinite plasma or a finite size plasma with periodic boundary conditions. Even if the width of the plasma matches the resonance condition for a standing wave, a spatially growing wave is excited instead with the growth rate small compared to that of the standing wave in a periodic system. Reduction of blob-filament radial propagation by parallel variation of flows: Analysis of a gyrokinetic simulation

Data from the XGC1 gyrokinetic simulation is analyzed to understand the three-dimensional spatial structure and the radial propagation of blob-filaments generated by quasisteady turbulence in the tokamak edge pedestal and scrape-off layer plasma. Spontaneous toroidal flows vary in the poloidal direction and shear the filaments within a flux surface resulting in a structure that varies in the parallel direction. Here, this parallel structure allows the curvature and grad-B induced polarization charge density to be shorted out via parallel electron motion.
