Cosmic-ray positrons from annihilation of weakly interacting massive particles in the galaxy

The production of cosmic-ray positrons from the annihilation of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMP's) is considered. Conventional supersymmetric-neutralino annihilation generally yields an unobservably small {ital e}{sup +} flux. However, a massive WIMP ({approx gt}20 GeV) with a large annihilation cross section into a single {ital e}{sup +}e{sup {minus}} pair produces a distinctive and observable shelf in the cosmic-ray {ital e}{sup +} spectrum. Only Dirac neutrinos obviously generate such a feature, but it may also appear in more elaborate neutralino models. Such models are constrained by upper limits on the low-energy antiproton flux.

Probing the structure of the galactic halo with gamma rays produced by annihilations of weakly interacting massive particles

It has recently been pointed out that the annihilations of a class of possible dark-matter halo constituents (including photinos, Higgs fermions, and heavy neutrinos or scalar neutrinos) within the halo of our galaxy produce a series of narrow gamma-ray lines. If these lines are detected, then the directional dependence of the intensity of the lines provides a very powerful probe of the halo mass distribution, and the local density, core radius, and ellipticity of the halo could be readily determined. Weakly interacting massive particle annihilation in caustics

The continuous infall of dark matter with low velocity dispersion from all directions in a galactic halo leads to the formation of caustics which are very small scale ({approx}parsec) high density structures. If the dark matter is made up of supersymmetric neutralinos, the annihilation of these particles produces a characteristic spectrum of gamma rays which, in principle, could be detected. The annihilation signal at different energy bands is computed and compared with the expected gamma ray background.

Massive mimetic cosmology

We study the first cosmological implications of the mimetic theory of massive gravity recently proposed by Chamseddine and Mukhanov. This is a novel theory of ghost-free massive gravity which additionally contains a mimetic dark matter component. In an echo of other modified gravity theories, there are self-accelerating solutions which contain a ghost instability. In the ghost-free region of parameter space, the effect of the graviton mass on the cosmic expansion history amounts to an effective negative cosmological constant, a radiation component, and a negative curvature term.
