Broad composite resonances and their signals at the LHC

The existence of the SU(2)(L) triplet composite spin-1 resonances rho(+/-,0) is a universal prediction of the strongly interacting new physics addressing the naturalness problem. Such resonances have not been found in the diboson final states, which are expected to be the dominant decay channels. In this work we propose a new scenario where the left-handed quark doublet q(L) = (t(L), b(L)) is fully composite. In this case, the rho resonances can be broad and mainly decay to the third-generation quarks. The t (t) over bar resonance search channel is comparable in sensitivity to the dilepton channel. Signals for new spin-1 resonances in electroweak gauge boson pair production at the LHC

The mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) will be directly scrutinized soon at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We analyze the LHC potential to look for new vector bosons associated with the EWSB sector, presenting a possible model independent approach to search for these new spin-1 resonances. We show that the analyses of the processes pp{yields}l{sup +}l{sup '-}Ee{sub T}, l{sup {+-}}jjEe{sub T}, l{sup '{+-}}l{sup +}l{sup -}Ee{sub T}, l{sup {+-}}jjEe{sub T}, and l{sup +}l{sup -}jj (with l, l{sup '}=e or {mu} and j=jet) have a large reach at the LHC and can lead to the discovery or exclusion of many EWSBmore » scenarios such as Higgsless models.« less

Spin determination of heavy s-channel diphoton resonances at the LHC

Diphoton events at the LHC can provide clean signals of heavy neutral quantum states predicted by New Physics models. These non-standard particles would manifest themselves by s-channel peaks in inclusive distributions in the diphoton invariant mass. Prospects for discovering heavy graviton resonances in decays to an electron-positron pair and for identifying the nature of these resonances in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are investigated. Gravitons in the Randall-Sundrum model, which features extra spatial dimensions, are considered by way of example.
