The effect of the spin-orbit scattering on the coexistence phase (CP) and on the upper critical field H/sub c//sub 2/ in ferromagnetic superconductors is studied. It is shown that the spin-orbit scattering is ineffective in the suppression of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida exchange interaction in the CP of ErRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/ and HoMo/sub 6/S/sub 8/. This means that earlier conclusions concerning the dominance of the exchange interaction in the formation and destruction of the CP in ErRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/ and HoMO/sub 6/S/sub 8/ are definitely proved.

Magnetization reversal in ferromagnetic thin films induced by spin-orbit interaction with Slonczewski-like spin transfer torque

We theoretically investigate the dynamics of magnetization in ferromagnetic thin films induced by spin-orbit interaction with Slonczewski-like spin transfer torque. We reproduce the experimental results of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy films by micromagnetic simulation. Due to the spin-orbit interaction, the magnetization can be switched by changing the direction of the current with the assistant of magnetic field. By increasing the current amplitude, wider range of switching events can be achieved. Geometric and Magnetic Structures of K₂ReI₆ as an Antiferromagnetic Insulator with Ferromagnetic Spin-Canting Originated from Spin–Orbit Coupling

We present the results of a crystallographic analysis, magnetic characterization including neutron powder diffraction, and theoretical assessment of K₂ReI₆ prepared using solvent reactions. K₂ReI₆ crystallizes in the space group P2₁/n with an inversion center. Magnetic measurements of K₂ReI₆ sample indicate dominant antiferromagnetic coupling with a Curie–Weiss temperature of θ_W = –63.3(1) K, effective magnetic moment ~2.64 μ_B/Re but show a weak ferromagnetism ordered at ~24 K. Neutron powder diffraction indicates long-range order of the Re spins below 24 K, with an ordered magnetic moment of 2.2(1) μ_B/Re at 1.5 K. Spin and orbital magnetic densities in ferromagnetic nickel

A polarized-neutron-diffraction experiment is described, aimed at detecting the asphericity of the orbital magnetic density of nickel. The results indicate that the orbital magnetic density is much more spherical than predicted by the atomic model. The experimental finding is fully consistent with that calculated on the basis of the itinerant-electron theory, in which the spin-orbit interaction has been taken into account.
