The Burgers equation is obtained to study the characteristics of nonlinear propagation of ionacoustic shock, singular kink, and periodic waves in weakly relativistic plasmas containing relativistic thermal ions, nonextensive distributed electrons, Boltzmann distributed positrons, and kinematic viscosity of ions using the well-known reductive perturbation technique. This equation is solved by employing the (G'/G)-expansion method taking unperturbed positron-to-electron concentration ratio, electron-to-positron temperature ratio, strength of electrons nonextensivity, ion kinematic viscosity, and weakly relativistic streaming factor. The nonlinear propagation of finite amplitude ion acoustic solitary waves in a plasma consisting of adiabatic warm ions, nonisothermal electrons, and a weakly relativistic electron beam is studied via a two-fluid model. A multiple scales technique is employed to investigate the nonlinear regime. The existence of the electron beam gives rise to four linear ion acoustic modes, which propagate at different phase speeds. The numerical analysis shows that the propagation speed of two of these modes may become complex-valued (i.e., waves cannot occur) under conditions which depend on values of the beam-to-background-electron density ratio {alpha}, the ion-to-free-electron temperature ratio {sigma},more »« less

Small amplitude nonlinear electron acoustic solitary waves in weakly magnetized plasma

Nonlinear propagation of electron acoustic waves in homogeneous, dispersive plasma medium with two temperature electron species is studied in presence of externally applied magnetic field. The linear dispersion relation is found to be modified by the externally applied magnetic field. Lagrangian transformation technique is applied to carry out nonlinear analysis. For small amplitude limit, a modified KdV equation is obtained, the modification arising due to presence of magnetic field. For weakly magnetized plasma, the modified KdV equation possesses stable solitary solutions with speed and amplitude increasing temporally. Nonlinear effects produced by continuous electromagnetic waves propagating in weakly dissipative plasmas

A general perturbation method, founded on the multiple-space-scales technique, is applied to the kinetic analysis of the nonlinear effects generated by continuous transverse electromagnetic waves of finite amplitude propagating in warm and partially ionized plasmas. The collisional and weakly collisional cases are successively studied for a typical ordering of the significant parameters. In each case, it is first shown that the zero-order electron distribution function is determined by a set of two coupled equations and that it becomes inhomogeneous and generally non-Maxwellian under the effect of the collisional heating due to the wave absorption in the medium. Nonlinear Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation for obliquely propagating two-dimensional ion-acoustic solitary waves in a relativistic, rotating magnetized electron-positron-ion plasma

The purpose of this work is to investigate the linear and nonlinear properties of the ion-acoustic waves (IAW), propagating obliquely to an external magnetic field in a weakly relativistic, rotating, and magnetized electron-positron-ion plasma. The Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation is derived by employing the reductive perturbation technique for this wave in the nonlinear regime. This equation admits the solitary wave solution.
