Information-entropic measure of energy-degenerate kinks in two-field models

Here, we investigate the existence and properties of kink-like solitons in a class of models with two interacting scalar fields. In particular, we focus on models that display both double and single-kink solutions, treatable analytically using the Bogomol'nyi–Prasad–Sommerfield bound (BPS). Such models are of interest in applications that include Skyrmions and various superstring-motivated theories. Exploring a region of parameter space where the energy for very different spatially-bound configurations is degenerate, we show that a newly-proposed momentum–space entropic measure called Configurational Entropy (CE) can distinguish between such energy-degenerate spatial profiles. Information-entropic signature of the critical point

Here, we investigate the critical behavior of continuous (second-order) phase transitions in the context of (2 + 1)-dimensional Ginzburg–Landau models with a double-well effective potential. In particular, we show that the recently-proposed configurational entropy (CE)—a measure of the spatial complexity of the order parameter in momentum space based on its Fourier-mode decomposition—can be used to identify the critical point. We compute the CE for different temperatures and show that large spatial fluctuations near the critical point (T_c)—characterized by a divergent correlation length—lead to a sharp decrease in the associated configurational entropy. The latest result in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Quasar Lens Search (SQLS) has set the first cosmological constraints on negative-mass compact objects and Ellis wormholes. There are no multiple images lensed by the above two exotic objects for {approx}50, 000 distant quasars in the SQLS data. Therefore, an upper bound is put on the cosmic abundances of these lenses. Coherent scalar-field oscillations forming compact astrophysical objects

A new type of astrophysical object is proposed: a clump of oscillations in a classical weakly interacting scalar field, such as an axion field. The central part of the object might be observable as a strong coherent radio source - a cosmic maser. The source would be powered by accretion of field from a peripheral zone. 23 references.
