Here, nickel iron (III) oxyphosphate NiFeOPO₄ (NFP) was successfully synthesized using solid-state route and modified with carbon layer using sucrose as carbon source. The electrochemical performances of the composite anode material NiFeOPO₄/C (NFP/C) vs. Li⁺/Li⁰ were investigated at C/5 current rate and in a wide voltage window 0.01-3.0 V. During the first lithiation at C/5, NFP/C was able to uptake more than six lithium ions into the structure delivering a capacity of 736.63 mAh g^-1. Soft X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy of the MgB2 Boron K Edge in an MgB2/Mg Composite

Soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), using fluorescence yield, was used to study the boron K near edge in MgB2 superconductor. The sample consists of MgB2 crystallites randomly oriented in a magnesium matrix. Abrasion of the sample surface in vacuum provides a surface relatively free of boron-containing impurities. The intrinsic boron K near edge spectrum of the sample at a temperature of 295 K is identified. This spectrum is then compared in detail with a spectrum calculated using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave method. Features predicted by the theory appear near the expected energies, with qualitative agreement regarding shapemore » and intensity.« less

Electronic Structure of the Electrochemically Delithiated Li1-xFePO4 Electrodes Investigated by P K-edge X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy

P K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) has been carried out to investigate the electronic structure of the electrochemically delithiated Li{sub 1-x}FePO{sub 4} for Li rechargeable batteries. The gradual shift of main edge features to higher energy side showed that P-O bonds become less covalent during delithiation due to the more covalent Fe{sup 3+}-O bonds via the inductive effect. A principal component analysis of P K-edge XAS spectra of the electrochemically delithiated Li{sub 1-x}FePO{sub 4} reveals that this set of spectra can be well represented by two primary components, in good agreement with a first-order phase transition involving the LiFePO{sub 4}more »« less
