The Hall viscosity has been proposed as a topological property of incompressible fractional quantum Hall states and can be evaluated as Berry curvature. This paper reports on the Hall viscosities of composite-fermion Fermi seas at ν = 1/m, where m is even for fermions and odd for bosons. A well-defined value for the Hall viscosity is not obtained by viewing the 1/m composite-fermion Fermi seas as the n → ∞ limit of the Jain ν = n/(nm ± 1) states, whose Hall viscosities (±n + m)ℏρ/4 (ρ is the two-dimensional density) approach ±∞ in the limit n → ∞. Strongly interacting isotopic Bose-Fermi mixture immersed in a Fermi sea

We have created a triply quantum-degenerate mixture of bosonic {sup 41}K and two fermionic species {sup 40}K and {sup 6}Li. The boson is shown to be an efficient coolant for the two fermions, spurring hopes for the observation of fermionic superfluids with imbalanced masses. We observe multiple heteronuclear Feshbach resonances, in particular a wide s-wave resonance for the combination {sup 41}K-{sup 40}K, opening up studies of strongly interacting isotopic Bose-Fermi mixtures. For large imbalance in the local densities of different species, we enter the polaronic regime of dressed impurities immersed in a bosonic or fermionic bath.

This paper reviews recent studies on the energetics of fermions confined to a two dimensional square lattice, and the relations of these results to mean-field approaches to the t-J model. Our goals has been to compute the kinetic energy of the Fermi sea of the spinless fermions for any value of the fermion concentration, magnetic flux, and frustration. The possibility of abnormally occupying plane-wave Hartree-Fock determinants is studied analytically for several many-fermion systems interacting with short- and long-ranged pair potentials in three dimensions. Lower energy states are found in some cases, but they always depend sensitively on the shape of the potential as well as on the amount of space exchange present in the interaction.
