Title: Strangeness suppression of $q \bar{q}$ creation observed in exclusive reactions

Abstract

In this study, we measured the ratios of electroproduction cross sections from a proton target for three exclusive meson-baryon final states: ΛK⁺, pπ⁰, and nπ⁺, with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. Using a simple model of quark hadronization, we extract qq¯ creation probabilities for the first time in exclusive two-body production, in which only a single qq¯ pair is created. We observe a sizable suppression of strange quark-antiquark pairs compared to nonstrange pairs, similar to that seen in high-energy production.

Here, we report the study of B⁺→p¯ΛK⁺K^– and B+→¯pΛK⁺K⁺ decays using a 772 × 10⁶ B¯B pair data sample recorded on the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. The following branching fractions are measured: B(B⁺ → p¯ΛK⁺K^–) = (4.10^+0.45_–0.43±0.50) × 10^–6, B(B⁺ → ¯pΛK⁺K⁺) = (3.70^+0.39_–0.37±0.44) × 10^–6, B(η_c → p¯ΛK^– + c.c.) = (2.83^+0.36_–0.34±0.35) × 10^–3 and B(B⁺ → p¯ΛΦ) = (7.95 ± 2.09 ± 0.77) × 10^–7, where c.c. denotes the corresponding charge-conjugation process. Measurements of the top quark-antiquark (t t-bar) spin correlations and the top quark polarization are presented for t t-bar pairs produced in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed using events with two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons) and two or more jets, where at least one of the jets is identified as originating from a bottom quark.
