Pauli blocking and medium effects in nucleon knockout reactions

We study medium modifications of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) cross sections and their influence on the nucleon knockout reactions. Using the eikonal approximation, we compare the results obtained with free NN cross sections with those obtained with a purely geometrical treatment of Pauli blocking and with NN obtained with more elaborated Dirac-Bruecker methods. The medium effects are parametrized in terms of the baryon density. We focus on symmetric nuclear matter, although the geometrical Pauli blocking also allows for the treatment of asymmetric nuclear matter. Inclusion of nonspherical components of the Pauli blocking operator in (p,p{sup '}) reactions

We present the first calculations of proton elastic and inelastic scattering in which the Pauli blocking operator contains the leading nonspherical components as well as the usual spherical (angle-averaged) part. We develop a formalism for including the contributions to the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction from the resulting new G-matrix elements that extend the usual two-nucleon spin structure and may not conserve angular momentum. We explore the consequences of parity conservation, time-reversal invariance, and nucleon-nucleon antisymmetrization for the new effective interaction. Changes to the calculated cross section and spin observables are small in the energy range from 100 to 200 MeV.

Determination of in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections from the data of proton-induced reaction cross sections

Energy-dependent in-medium nucleon-nucleon ({ital NN}) cross sections are obtained from the experimental data of proton-induced reaction cross sections. Total reaction cross sections of the proton-nucleus reaction reflect only the magnitude of {ital NN} cross sections around the incident beam energy. Therefore energy-dependent in-medium {ital NN} cross sections can be determined by reproducing proton-induced reaction cross sections for various target nuclei. Disappearance of flow and the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section

Based on a Boltzmann equation, the transverse momentum distributions are calculated for central {sup 40}Ar+{sup 51}V collisions with an aim to determine the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section. Indeed, the calculations suggest that measurements of the energy of balance, {ital E}{sub bal}, can provide a powerful tool to pin down the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section. Within our improved Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) model, the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section is narrowed down to {sigma}{sub {ital N}{ital N}}{approx}30--40 mb, for the first time, using recent experimental data.
